Five Months Into The Season:
The U12 team started the Power League in 2nd with a tough loss in the final match. We then traded places with the team that took first the rest of the season. We went to Spokane and tied for 5th. This was a great learning experience. The team got to see a higher level of volleyball and came away better players. When Prime Time rolled around we were ready! We made it to the final and played one of the best matches against our rivals but came up short in the last game! Final score was 28-26!! They took 3rd at the Dominoes Invite and look forward to regionals.
U13 Gold has made great strides this season. They finished 7th overall in U14 Power League in the silver division.
They were the #4 team in the U13 division. Prime time we finished tied for 6th.
The U-14 Gold team is preparing for Reno for the Far Western Qualifier. Our team is looking healthier after some untimely injuries that have followed the team around to the past three tournaments. As we team we have really hung together and battled through this adversity.
Our 4th place finish at Prime Time was less than we expected, but with three of our key players not able to play down the stretch we still did a great job of being very competitive with the best teams in the region.
The season as a whole has been a great success, with some key tournaments still in front of us. I have seen great strides in each of the players individually and as a team. Nothing is more exciting than to watch a young adult grow as a player in a few short months.
One of the highlights of the season that didn’t deal with our good on court play happened in Spokane a few weeks past. Each of the girls was ask to write a short story that they had to read in front of their teammates. The subject of the story was them scoring the winning point in the championship match. Each girl had to include all of their teammates in the story and in the end they had to come through with the special match winning point. The room was completely filled with laughter and camaraderie as each read their creative stories and extremely funny ways they included their teammates. I hope I get to see each of those stories come true over the years!
15 Silver - The 15 Silver has had an inspiring season, accounting well for itself. The eight players have taken it upon themselves to be a tough out no matter who they play.

The 16 gold team is working hard and progressing well. The progression does not seem evident in wins and losses but team work, diligence, and hard work are duly noted. The team gels together with many varying personalities and the So Cal tournament found us winning five matches and losing three. We travel to Reno this weekend and will be in the open classification. This will be a tough test for us but one tha t we are looking forward to.
The 16 Silver team is doing very well this season. The team dynamic is outstanding, with every member focused on their individual skills and team development. Serving tough consistently and playing solid tempo volleyball have really become our strengths. Goals for the duration of our season include minimizing injuries, developing team momentum, and achieving a higher level of court awareness.
U-17 Wow, sum up the season in 20 words or less. Do I look at how much better they are now than when I first saw them in December or how far we still need to go?
Shall I talk about our frustration in Vegas where none of us could pass or hit a ball in the court or how we stunned Ohana at Prime Time and took 5th when we almost didn’t get in the tournament at all!
In looking at our record we are just under 50% win-loss ratio, we are still hitting just above zero and our passing is a fairly steady 1.88 or so. Our serve to error ratio is still about zero but we are trying to elevate our level of play each week.
All members of the team have made great strides during the season and we continue to work on skill flaws and team consistency issues.

The 18 Gold team had a very successful tournament in Las Vegas over the President's Day weekend, finishing 11th out of 128 teams in the 18 Open division. In opening day play on Saturday, the team swept its pool, going 3-0 in matches and 6-0 in games, defeating City Beach, Coast Volleyball Club, and Houston Jrs. On Sunday, the girls took 2nd in pool play, defeating TCA of Dallas, and Santa Monica Beach Club, before dropping their first match of the tournament against TCA Third Degree of LA.
The 2nd place finish put the girls in the Challenge matches (round of 32) with a first round match against Spokane Splash, a team that had beat them a month ago in Beaverton. The girls came out strong and dominated game 1, then dropped a close game 2. Game three was back and forth and looked to be in jeopardy when libero Sammie Teigen dislocated her shoulder diving for a ball at 11-11. But the girls hung tough and gutted out a 17-15 win. That put them in against Triangle VBC of North Carolina in the round of 16. Unfortunately, playing short-handed, Triangle easily dispatched the girls and sending them into the Silver bracket (9-16th place) on Monday.
The first-round matchup was agaisnt always-tough Golden West out of California. The first game was close and a couple late ball control errors gave Golden West a 25-22 win. All seemed lost in game 2 as Golden West raced out to a 13-3 lead. But the girls didn't quit and slowly worked their way back in to the game and claimed an improbable 26-24 victory. Game 3 was back and forth and was won 20-18, Meagan Ganzer contributing the final point, banging it off the Golden West block. A close 3-game loss to Laguna Beach in the Silver division semi-finals, and the girls settled for a very impressive 11th place finish, the highest finish for any u-18 team in our club history at Vegas.
Thanks to all the parents who attended and helped keep everyone fed, awake and off to the right gyms (and to hospitals to pop shoulders back into place). And of course, congratulations to the team for their outstanding play and carrying the Puget Sound banner high!

On Wednesday, Jan. 16 we'll be taking photos for the website. All players need to be at Fife HS by 5:30. We'll do an all-club photo and then individual team photos afterward. Those teams that have to go to other sites for practice will have their team photo taken first, followed by those teams that practice at FHS. Everyone needs to wear their BLACK jersey for the photos.
